Get a school seat in ATRRS
You know how to get your name on a course seat and keep it until you report.
Walkthrough video in production
Real screen, real clicks, fake Soldier. Until it is up, the written steps below are the walkthrough.

- Real-screen capture

Filmed on the live system with a CAC, every name and number swapped for a test Soldier before recording.
Step by step
- 01
Find the course
Look up the course number and class dates in the ATRRS course catalog. Write down the prerequisites.
- 02
Check the prerequisites
Common ones are rank, PHA and dental, fitness test, height and weight, clearance, and earlier course phases. Fix anything red now.
- 03
Ask your schools NCO
You cannot reserve your own seat. Give the course, class number and dates to your unit schools NCO or unit admin. Some units use a DA 4187 or a training request form.
- 04
Ask early
Your schools NCO sends the request to the quota manager at your higher command, who reserves the seat. Wait lists turn into seats oldest first, in windows before the report date. The 2015 ATRRS rules for Army Reserve schools: more than 100 days out, the seat stays with the unit that owns it. At 100 to 91 days, unused seats open to the rest of that quota source. At 90 to 46 days, unused Army Reserve seats go to the oldest Army Reserve wait. At 45 to 16 days, seats open to anyone. Inside 15 days, waits stop turning into seats on their own. Your quota manager has the current dates for your class.
The oldest wait wins. Asking a year out puts you ahead of someone who asks 60 days out.
- 05
Check your own reservation
ATRRS emails you after a request. To see your seat yourself, go to RCMS G1 Self-Service (selfservice.rcms.usar.army.mil) with your CAC. A home computer works. Open My Soldier Data, then the ATRRS tab. It shows the course, class, dates and your reservation status code.
- 06
Turn in the course packet
Many courses want a packet. One course wanted it no later than 45 days before class, and said a reservation alone does not hold the seat.
- 07
Get school orders
Your unit requests school orders. You need signed orders before you can book DTS travel.
- 08
If your seat gets cancelled, read the code
A cancelled seat has a two-letter reason code. Common ones: EE or ED, missed the enrollment deadline. DR, required data (often the packet) not turned in. DM, prerequisites not met. EJ, conflict with your civilian job. IG, the IDT class site is more than 50 miles away. LF, no funding. Ask your schools NCO what caused it. Many can be fixed before the next class.
- 09
After you graduate
Make sure your graduation shows in ATRRS and your DA 1059 posts to your record. Then file your DTS voucher.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! You cannot sign yourself up. Every request goes through your unit.
- ! Missing the nomination date or the packet date quietly kills the seat.
- ! Being on the wait list close to class does not mean you will get in. Inside 15 days someone has to move you by hand.
- ! 'R' (valid reservation) means you hold a seat. A wait or a cancellation code means you do not.
- ! Your RCMS screens carry Privacy Act data. Do not screenshot and share them.
- ! Seats get tight near the end of the fiscal year.
- ! DLC was dropped in May 2024, and BLC is now required for SSG, not SGT.
- ! Courses with two phases need two seats and two sets of orders.
