Step by step
- 01
Search Tour of Duty
ADOS tours are posted in Tour of Duty (ToD). Search for tours you qualify for.
- 02
Check your records
Make sure your IPPS-A record, medical readiness and clearance are current before you apply.
- 03
Apply in ToD
Apply for the tour in ToD. Tell your unit admin you applied.
- 04
Plan for the wait
One Army guide says a ToD packet takes about 60 to 90 days before orders are made. Start about three months ahead.
Tours that start the same month you apply often end up with late or changed orders.
- 05
Line up your civilian job
Talk to your civilian employer early about the dates.
- 06
Wait for signed orders
Do not travel or start until you have signed orders. Pay and DTS both need them.
- 07
Check your pay once you start
Check myPay about 8 to 10 days in. Orders of 30 days or more pay on the 1st and 15th.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! Tour of Duty and contingency orders are moving into IPPS-A between about October 2026 and February 2027. Where you apply may change, so check with your unit admin.
- ! Late applications lead to late orders and late pay.
- ! AROWS is an Air Force system. Army Reserve orders do not come from it.
