IPPS-A & records
Change your name everywhere, in the right order
Your new legal name shows in IPPS-A, DEERS, your CAC and Army 365, without wasted trips.
Walkthrough video in production
Real screen, real clicks, fake Soldier. Until it is up, the written steps below are the walkthrough.
- Script
- Voice
- Real-screen capture
- Published
Filmed on the live system with a CAC, every name and number swapped for a test Soldier before recording.
Step by step
- 01
Start in IPPS-A
Submit a name change PAR in IPPS-A with your legal document attached. Your unit admin processes it.
Do this first. The ID card office cannot change your name in DEERS for you.
- 02
Track the PAR
Watch each approval step in IPPS-A on the web or the mobile app.
- 03
Let it reach DEERS
Once approved, your new name goes from your service record to DEERS. Ask your unit admin when it has posted.
- 04
Book RAPIDS
Book an appointment in ID Card Office Online. Bring the original legal document and two forms of ID.
Copies are not accepted. Bring the original.
- 05
Get your new CAC
RAPIDS issues a new CAC in your new name. Pick a PIN you will remember.
- 06
Set up the new card at home
Run InstallRoot again and test your new card on your home computer.
- 07
Check the Army 365 address book
Your address book name updates from DEERS. In IDCO you can only fix capital letters, hyphens and apostrophes. Changes take 4 to 48 hours, and Teams can take days.
- 08
Update family in DEERS
Family member info is changed in DEERS at RAPIDS, not in IPPS-A.
- 09
Watch your next LES
Identity changes have caused pay problems before. Tell your unit admin if anything on your LES looks off.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! Going to RAPIDS before the IPPS-A change posts will likely get you turned away.
- ! Bring original documents, not copies.
- ! IDCO cannot change the letters of your name, only formatting.
- ! How long IPPS-A takes to reach DEERS is not published. Check with your unit admin before you book RAPIDS.
