Fix your name or rank in the Army 365 address book
Your name and rank show up right in Outlook and Teams, or you know who has to fix them.
Filmed on the live system with a CAC, every name and number swapped for a test Soldier before recording. Narration is an AI voice, checked line by line by a person.
Step by step
- 01
Check the source first
Your name and rank in the address book (GAL) come from your personnel record and DEERS. Make sure IPPS-A already shows your promotion or new name.
If IPPS-A is wrong, fix that first with your unit admin.
- 02
Open My Profile in IDCO
Go to idco.dmdc.osd.mil, choose 'My Profile', and click Continue. Log in with myAuth, using your CAC or your myAuth account.
- 03
Update your contact info
The Personal tab updates your DEERS contact info, like emails and phones. The MIL tab holds your duty unit and duty phone.
- 04
Fix name formatting
Use 'Update GAL Name' to fix capital letters, hyphens or apostrophes. The letters must stay the same.
- 05
Click Submit
You must click SUBMIT or nothing saves. Changes take 4 to 48 hours to show.
- 06
Give Teams more time
Teams is usually the last to update and can take days. Try Teams on the web, or sign out and back in.
- 07
Rank still wrong?
MilitaryCAC says rank errors in the address book need a visit to an ID card office. Book a RAPIDS appointment.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! For the Army Reserve, the organization label will only ever show 'US Army Reserve Center'.
- ! Dual-military couples may show as a family member. Use 'Change Sponsor' first.
- ! IDCO cannot change the letters of your name. A real name change starts in IPPS-A.
- ! How long it takes a promotion to reach the address book is not published. Ask your unit admin if it has been weeks.
