Step by step
- 01
Stop trying
Your CAC locks after three wrong PINs in a row. More tries will not unlock it.
- 02
Know where it can be fixed
A PIN reset happens in person at a RAPIDS ID card office or a CAC PIN Reset (Trusted Agent) workstation. Ask your unit admin or unit IT if there is one near your Reserve Center.
- 03
Open the site locator
Go to ID Card Office Online (idco.dmdc.osd.mil) and open Site Locator & Appointments. You do not need to log in.
- 04
Pick 'PIN Reset'
Search near you and choose 'PIN Reset' as the reason for your visit.
- 05
Call the site first
Sites have different rules. Some take walk-ins, some are appointment only, and some are not on the online scheduler at all.
A quick call saves a wasted drive.
- 06
Book and go
Book the time slot. Bring your CAC and two forms of ID.
- 07
Pick a new PIN
At the site you choose a new PIN of 6 to 8 digits. Pick one you will remember.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! The nearest RAPIDS site is often on a different installation than your Reserve Center.
- ! Some sites are not on the online scheduler. Call them.
- ! Walk-in rules change from site to site.
- ! You cannot reset a PIN from home.
