Fill out your SF-86 in eApp without delays
You turn in a complete SF-86 in eApp and know what to report afterward.
Walkthrough video in production
Real screen, real clicks, fake Soldier. Until it is up, the written steps below are the walkthrough.
- Script
- Voice
- Real-screen capture
- Published
Filmed on the live system with a CAC, every name and number swapped for a test Soldier before recording.
Step by step
- 01
Wait for the start
Your security manager starts your request. Then you get access to eApp, which replaced e-QIP.
- 02
Gather info first
Collect 7 to 10 years of addresses, jobs and references, plus foreign travel and foreign contacts, before you start.
Having it all in one file before you log in saves hours.
- 03
Fill out the SF-86
Answer every question fully and honestly. Save often.
- 04
Get fingerprinted
Your security manager tells you how and where.
- 05
Submit and wait
Your case goes to investigation, then a decision. You may get an interim clearance first.
- 06
Continuous vetting
Once cleared, you are enrolled in continuous vetting. Things like new debt or an arrest can show up on their own.
- 07
Report changes yourself
Tell your security manager about big life changes, like debt, arrests or foreign travel.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! Top Secret, and TS/SCI with a polygraph, can take many months. Published timelines vary, so ask your security manager.
- ! The SF-86 is being replaced by a new form, the Personnel Vetting Questionnaire, starting in FY2027.
- ! News about a 5-year resubmission rule is for contractors, not military members.
