Step by step
- 01
Know the rule
DoD 8140 qualifies you by work role. A certification is one way to qualify, along with education and training.
- 02
Check your work role
Look up your work role in the DoD 8140 qualification matrices on cyber.mil. Version 2.1 took effect September 19, 2025.
- 03
Save your own records
ATCTS shut down May 1, 2025, and no direct replacement for cert tracking has been named. Download your cert PDFs and training logs from each vendor portal.
Keep one folder of PDFs. For now, you are your own record keeper.
- 04
Give copies to your unit
Send your cert PDFs to the person who tracks the cyber workforce in your unit.
- 05
Log your training hours
8140 asks for 20 hours of continuous professional development each year to stay fully qualified.
- 06
Pay for exams with CA
Credentialing Assistance (CA) in ArmyIgnitED can pay for courses and exams. Since March 2026, every request needs supervisor approval.
- 07
Search Army COOL
Search credentials on Army COOL to see which ones match your job.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! AVS replaced ATCTS for network account requests, but it does not track certs.
- ! Who pays renewal fees for a mission-required cert is not clear. Check with your unit admin.
- ! CA and TA share one yearly cap. Officers cannot start new CA goals.
- ! Certs you earned at your civilian job still need to be documented for Army credit.
