Walkthrough video in production
Real screen, real clicks, fake Soldier. Until it is up, the written steps below are the walkthrough.
- Script
- Voice
- Real-screen capture
- Published
Filmed on the live system with a CAC, every name and number swapped for a test Soldier before recording.
Step by step
- 01
Check if you can use TA
TPU Soldiers can use TA. You can start right after AIT (officers after BOLC or WOBC) if you are not flagged.
- 02
Know the limits
TA covers up to $4,500 and 18 semester hours per fiscal year.
- 03
Do first-time training
First-time users must finish ArmyIgnitED training. Everyone must use the decision support tool.
- 04
Request TA
In ArmyIgnitED, enter your school, course and term. Submit well before the term starts.
The request deadline changed in 2026. Check the current rule with your unit admin.
- 05
Get your supervisor's approval
Since March 19, 2026, every TA request needs approval from your supervisor or a commander's representative in ArmyIgnitED. Tell your supervisor it is coming.
- 06
Finish the course
Finish your class. Money the Army takes back (recoupment) counts against you.
- 07
Watch recoupments
Two recoupments in one fiscal year, TA and CA combined, means a 12-month suspension from both. You can appeal in ArmyIgnitED.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! Old school web pages still say you must wait a year after AIT, or list $4,000 and 16 hours. Those rules are out of date.
- ! A part-time chain of command can be slow to approve. Ask early.
- ! TA and Credentialing Assistance share the same yearly cap.
