Readiness & drill
Request RST or an excused absence for Battle Assembly
Your missed drill is excused or made up, so it does not count against you.

Step by step
- 01
Check the Duty Calendar
The IPPS-A Duty Calendar shows your upcoming training dates. Spot conflicts early.
- 02
Read your unit's rules
RST and excusal rules are set by your unit's memo. Ask for a copy.
One unit's memo wanted requests to the commander by the Monday before drill, with RST within 60 days before or after.
- 03
Tell your first-line leader
As soon as you know about the conflict, tell your first-line leader and follow the memo.
- 04
Submit the request
Submit the absence or RST request the way your unit tells you, and track it in IPPS-A.
Do not cancel and resubmit for the same dates. A canceled request blocks new ones for those dates.
- 05
Do the RST
Show up on the approved date and make sure your attendance is recorded.
- 06
Check pay and points
Afterward, check your LES and points summary to make sure the drill counted.
- 07
Keep your address current
Unit letters go to your mailing address. Letters that come back can still count against you.
Why it gets kicked back
- ! More than 8 unexcused absences in a year is not allowed. The 9th makes you an unsatisfactory participant, which can lead to separation.
- ! Your commander must send you a letter after your 4th unexcused absence in a year. Treat it as a warning.
- ! Rules change from unit to unit. Follow your own unit's memo.
- ! Duty Participation in IPPS-A is new in 2026 and S-1 shops are still learning it.
